去年の早春の大津波のあと、二ヶ月ほど（これが決まって正確に）絵が 描けなくなったという何人もの画家たちに会った。晩秋だったか、傍若無人で知られたあるコロリストは個展会場で、描けない上に帯状疱疹になり難儀した。あれだけのことがあって平然としている奴の気がしれないと虚空を見やり、その彩色には心なしか翳りがあった。私たちの、たとえば台風を恐れつつ期待する自然との一体感のようなものに亀裂が入ったのだろうか？
このとき、小林万里子の重層する自然のイメージの混沌の温もりはすでに一つの癒しである。

After the great tsunami hit Japan early spring last year, I met many artists who found themselves unable to paint for about two months (the term equal to every). It was probably late autumn when one colorist known for arrogant attitudes confessed at his solo exhibition that he could not paint either, and to make matters worse, he had suffered from herpes zoster. With his eyes staring at empty space, he said:” How could one keep peace of mind having experienced such disaster?” Colors in his work seemed somewhat depressed. We are afraid of typhoon but we live with it. A kind of unity with nature disrupted?
Mariko Kobayashi has multilayered images of nature. Chaos creates warmth. Under current circumstances, it is indeed a healing touch.
