１月１５日/昨年末、是非聞いてみたいミュージシャンという話が、ある集まりのなかでありました。その方はある有名フォークシンガーを上げていらっしゃいました。素晴らしいシンガーソングライターだと思います。自分にとっては誰だろうと考えを巡らせました。数年前にチケットを取り損ねたミュージシャンがいます。それは、ブエナ・ビスタ・ソシヤル・クラブのライ・クーダでした。スチールギターの音色の素晴らしさは物悲しく情熱的で実に悩ましいのです。ライ・クーダと言えば、ヴィム・ヴェンダースの映画「パリ、テキサス」を思い出します。「パリ、テキサス」と言えば、ナスターシャ・キンスキー。ナスターシャ・キンスキーと言えば、お父さんのクラウス・キンスキー。クラウス・キンスキーと言えば、ヴエルナー・ヘルツォーク監督の映画「フィツカラルド」と連想ゲームは続きます。フィツカラルドとはクラウス・キンスキー演じる狂気じみた主人公。舞台は南米のジャングル。記憶しているのは巨大な蒸気船が山を越えるシーンと最後のシーン。実際、旅番組で紹介されたパリをそのまま模倣しようとした都市のオペラハウスは、なかなかのもので劇場の天井の方はデコラティブペイントが施されていて、石を使うことが困難だったのかと考えたのですが、実はその方がコストが高いと聞いて驚きました。食料市場はパリのものを模倣して造作したらしく、ジャングルのなかに何故と思うのですが、これもゴム栽培がここだけで行われ、世界市場を一手にしていたという背景があったらしいのです。しかし、繁栄も長く続かず、ゴムの木の持ち出しと、東南アジアでの栽培により廃墟のような街になっていました。 是非聞いてみたいミュージシャンから、このような話に飛んでしまい申し訳ありません。人の頭というのは実に不可解であります。ライ・クーダー、来日しないかな。
